According to one’s evolution, one knows the truth; and the more one knows, the more one finds there is to know.

Which is the most desirable thing in life, to seek for the goal or to dwell in this changing life? The answer is that every person’s desire is according to their evolution. That for which they are ready is desirable for them. Milk is a desirable food for the infant, other foods for the grown-up person. Every stage in life has its own appropriate and desirable things.
The first sign of realization is tolerance towards others. There are the words of Christ: ‘In the house of my father are many mansions’ and those of the Prophet: ‘Each soul has its own religion’ This means that according to our evolution so we know the truth and the more we know, the more we find there is to learn.
The mystics have in all ages recognized the virtue of purity which is represented by innocence. People filled with earthly knowledge — and what they call learning is often only the knowledge of names and forms — has no capacity for the knowledge of Truth or God. It is the innocent and pure soul who has a capacity for learning. When people come to take a lesson on any subject, and they bring their own knowledge with them, the teacher has little to teach them, for the doors of their hearts are not open. Their hearts that should be empty in order to receive knowledge are occupied by the knowledge that they already had acquired. In order to know the truth or to know God earthly qualifications and earthly wisdom or learning are not necessary. What one has to learn is how to become a pupil.
Commentary by Murshid S.A.M. (Sufi Ahmed Murad)
Samuel L. Lewis
Truth stands above and beyond all facts. Truth is the comprehension of life itself, of God. There is no end to such knowledge, which is called the Supreme Knowledge. Therefore it cannot be explained in words or thoughts. Only the illuminated mind can sense it and mind cannot illuminate itself. Just as the light of the moon is drawn from the sun, reflected in the moon, so the light of the mind is drawn from the heart, reflected in mind. Sufis cultivate heart, which means to live by feeling, keeping in harmony with God, and this is possible according to the prescriptions given to each one by Murshid, or by Murshid’s representative.
